What it means for your child

A child in Punjab gets few chances to play rated chess close to home, so the games in between matter more: regular play against children at the same level, a coach who goes through those games, and a plan for when the next state championship comes round.

The capped Amateur championships make a sensible first rated event, because stronger players can't enter. We help you judge when your child is ready and prepare them for the day.

Before a first rated event, read how to get a FIDE rating in India and what changes at your child's first rated tournament.
